Discretionary portfolio management is a form of investment management in which trade decisions are made by the portfolio manager at their discretion.
At WLWP our portfolio management team consists of eight people who meet weekly to review investment selections.
Portfolio Managers are held to a much higher standard than other professional certifications in our industry. We have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the client’s best interest. To satisfy this standard we have a rigorous investment process that is implemented by the team.
In order to qualify as a Portfolio Manager, the securities regulator has set
specific requirements.
In Canada, there are two pathways to meeting those requirements and earning the designation of Certified Investment Manager(CIM).
One pathway includes the completion of the Canadian Securities Institute’s Canadian Securities Course, Investment Management Techniques, and Portfolio Management Techniques. The other option is to complete CFA Institute’s Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
A prospective Portfolio Manager must also prove extensive and specific industry experience before being approved for the designation.
